Food Miles and Local Produce
We take our food seriously here in Devon, this area of foodie heaven. We would like to tell you where we source our fresh local breakfast ingredients so you can be reassured that we know the provenance of all our food and drink.

Fairtrade and Clipper Teas: Food miles are important to us so we try to use suppliers who are a few minutes or miles away from Hedgehog Corner. Some of our suppliers are nationally known now such as Clipper Fairtrade Teas from Beaminster (Gold Taste of the West 2012) just 9 miles away. Served in local Lyme Regis artist Hilary Buckley's artistic mugs. We would also like to thank Clipper Teas for providing refreshments for the local Axminster Job Club.
Local milk and free range eggs: Our milk comes from the Yarty Dairies at Yarcombe (Silver Taste of the West 2012), a little village just over a few hills and delivered by John Ody. John, a neighbouring farmer, provides us with his very own free range eggs. He is passionate about preserving the old farming ways and the abundance of flora and fauna on his farm has just been mapped by Dorset Wild Life Trust.
Coffee: We recently met James and Sara of Lyme Bay Coffee who will be personally delivering their ground coffee to our door.

Fresh and smoked fish: Another doorstep supplier is a local character who you can meet when staying here. ’Si The Fish’, proprietor of The Old Watch House Wet Fish Shop on the Cobb at Lyme Regis is located just a few minutes' drive from the B&B. Si calls in with his boxes of huge oak smoked natural kippers for us with lots of fishy tales from his shop by the sea. One of his the large fishy offerings is pictured opposite.
Local bacon and sausages: Shaun Vining is a Master Butcher and runs Complete Meats in Axminster. They supply our bacon and sausages. Shaun sends us a weekly list so we can be sure that the food on the table comes straight from local farmers in the immediate vicinity - most of whom we know personally.
Complete Meats currently hold the Gold Taste of the West 2012 and numerous other food excellence awards.
Apple juice: We enjoy a day out to Four Elms Fruit Farm 20 miles away at Newton Poppleford to collect bottles of apple juice. They won first prize at the National Fruit Show 2011 and Silver Taste of the West 2012.
Our freshly baked homemade bread is made using a variety of flours from the family run Wessex Mill.
Olive oil: We use the very best olive oil from Elanthy. Their cold pressed olive oil comes from the Koreniki olive tree from their own mill in Kalamata, Greece with fresh oil delivered monthly to the Elanthy base in the Cotswolds. Cornish Sea Salt is also used in the process with Doves Farm yeast.

Homemade yoghurt and fruit trifle: We make our own yoghurt and here's our homemade fruit trifle opposite - a compote of seasonal fruit with a hint of vanilla, topped with our own home made yoghurt and sprinkled with Granola. Try it as an accompaniment or as a main course for breakfast.
Ganesha, the natural wholefood shop in Axminster, just 2 miles away, provides all the organic ingredients for our extremely popular home mix, fruit filled muesli, including jumbo organic oats and malted organic wheat flakes.
Millers Farm Shop of Axminster supply our tomatoes and mushrooms.
Moores biscuits: The delicious biscuit selection found on your tea tray are from Moores in the neighbouring village of Morecombelake. They also have a retail shop – well worth a visit to purchase pretty tins of biscuits and cakes as gifts to take home.
Preserves and sauces: We have our very own home made marmalade and Hedgehog Corner preserves in Lemon Curd, Whisky Marmalade, Apricot Jam and Tipsy Strawberry and Champagne to accompany our freshly baked homemade bread. Tiptree sauces to accompany your Full English.
Handmade chocolates: The wonderful ammonite shaped handmade chocolates which reflect the Jurassic Coast being on our doorstep are lovingly crafted from the best Belgian chocolate hand made by Pauline and Colin at Chocorassics in Uplyme. Pauline drops boxes off for us on her way past the door and you can buy a bag from us to take home.
