You won't know until the evening if others from Hedgehog Corner are sharing the trip as guests book in at different times.  

Please bear in mind that a visit to the HQ often involves a long wait for the taxi between rides on the transporter from the farm to the car park.   It is a set fare rather than meter in case you are delayed coming back to the car park.  

Any taxis for a Sunday should be booked in advance or you won't get one!

Walking to the River Cottage HQ

We are the nearest recommended accommodation provider to River Cottage HQ being just over 1.5 miles.  It is possible to walk to the HQ.  But please note that the road is often busy, there is only a short stretch of road with pavement and street lighting and it crosses open heathland.  We do provide luminous jackets and a torch in you room for those who would like to walk. Driving to Axminster & coast at Lyme Regis

Axminster and Lyme Regis are only about 5 minutes drive  - some 2.5 miles away.

Hix Restaurant, Parking in Lyme Regis & Axminster

Lyme Regis:

Holmbush Car park at the top of Cobb Road is £1.70 all day and a short walk to The Hix Restaurant.

You can glide through the gardens down to the sea front or walk down steep Cobb Road.

The Cobb Car parks have blue badge parking but are £1 an hour.  You can buy 3 day and long stay tickets from the WDDC Cobb Car Park at the meter by the wardens hut.  Park early during any peak periods to ensure you get a space.  Or catch the number 31 bus to Lyme from the stop near Hedgehog Corner.

Axminster:  has lots of car parks and for those going for evening meals at the River Cottage Canteen can often park for free in the Square. 

Axminster Railway and The Local 31 Bus 

There is no taxi rank at the Railway Station.  Book a taxi to meet you. You can catch the number 31 from outside Axminster Railway Station to our local pub The Hunters Lodge just minutes  from the B&B - but there is no pavement  and no street lighting.   The 31 meets the London & Exeter trains just past the hour, stops at our local pub and then goes into Lyme Regis.  From Lyme Regis you can catch the 53 Jurassic Bus which goes all along the Jurassic Coast - you can purchase a get on /get off ticket.

Cream Teas

For those arriving early there is plenty to see and do by the seaside in Lyme Regis.

For visitors travelling from the A303 via Crewkerne on the B3165 there is a fabulous light lunch and tea room on the left just past the village of Clapton at Lucy's Tea Room, Oathill Farm, Clapton which is quite divine with a traditional cottage garden and pets area.  Fabulous Sunday Lunches but book. 01404 30234

Lyme Regis has the Alexandra Hotel with its fabulous decking area at the very end of their garden and views over the Cobb as well as conservatory for a magnificent cream tea overlooking the Cobb.  Park at Holmbush Car Park as no parking at the hotel for non residents.

The River Cottage Canteen in Axminster also serves light lunches, coffee & teas as well as evening meals.

Millers Farm Shop

This magnificent farm shop run by a local farming family is just 5 minutes drive from our B&B.  Open 7 days a week and well worth a visit.
